FAMILY & RELOCATION

Moving as a family: one plan, separate files

Bring partners’ and children’s needs into the plan from the beginning.

A shared new home may involve different documents and conditions for each family member. A common timeline helps you move together without overlooking those distinctions.

The main residence type sets the context

Family permit conditions connect to the status of the person in the Netherlands. Discuss income, living together and relationship documents early.

Your partner’s right to work

A partner joining an HSM permit holder on a family permit may work freely. Other permit types do not automatically produce the same result; check the document and its basis.

Children’s ages and custody

The standard minor-child route is for children under 18. Custody and, where necessary, consent from the other parent affect preparation. Do not assume the same route for adult children.

Connect application and everyday-life timelines

Put document preparation, arrival, housing and school timing on the same plan. Do not base the move solely on the date an application is sent.

  • Passport and document status for each person
  • Shared address and arrival plan
  • School and practical needs
  • Decisions linked to the main application
PREPARE FOR A CONVERSATION

Build your preparation list.

  • Family members and dates of birth
  • Relationship and custody documents
  • Main residence or employment details
  • Target address and moving timeline
